Carne asada translates into “grilled meat.” Originating in Latin America and Mexico, carne asada refers to a type of beef cooked over a charcoal fire, usually on a flat surface such as a griddle. In addition to being delicious, carne asada is very common in Mexican cuisine.

The term carne asada can refer to either the entire meal or just the main ingredient. When referring to the whole meal, carne asada typically includes rice, beans, tortillas, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lime juice, salt, pepper and oregano.

To make sure you don’t end up with leftovers, divide the total weight of the meat by the number of guests. Then multiply that number by the portion sizes above.

There are different kinds of carnes asadas. Some are grilled, some are fried, and others are pan-fried. But what do you use to cook it? How much does each person eat? And how many pounds of raw meat do you need to make enough for six people?  You will need about 4 lbs of uncooked meat for 6 people and 3 lbs of cooked meat.

How To Make Carne Asada Go Further

Adding Beans/Rice

The easiest way to make it serve more people and a healthy meal is by adding beans or rice. This is because it takes less time and effort compared to cooking meat. Plus they are much cheaper. If you want to add some flavor to your food, you can add spices like salt, pepper, chili powder, garlic, onion, etc. These ingredients will give your dish a different taste.

Carne Asada Recipe For A Crowd

This recipe is one of my favorites because it tastes great and you don’t even have to go to the grocery store – just use what you already have. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound beef flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt & pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Cumin
  • Chili powder
  • Oregano
  • Lemon juice

Directions:

Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Place meat in a baking pan and rub with 2 tablespoons olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Bake for about 5-10 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Remove from heat and let rest for 10 minutes. Slice into strips and serve. Garnish with lemon wedges and cilantro.

How to Store Leftover Carne Asada

Leftover carne asada can be kept in the refrigerator for up to seven days. You can wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and place it in an airtight container. If you want to keep it longer, freeze it in portions no larger than one pound.

What To Serve With Carne Asada Tacos

Of course, tacos need all the usual suspects like pinto beans, black beans, refried beans, rice, salsa verde, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickled jalapeños, and whatever else you want to add. But what about those toppings that are just too delicious to pass up?
